Marvel Papercraft: Human Torch Mask

Comic Book Character Mask Series - Part 5
It has been a while, but I have finally finished another Marvel Comics mask. In the unlikely case you aren't familiar with the subject of this mask, the Human Torch (Johnny Storm) is a superhero with fire powers who is a member of the Fantastic Four. The inspiration for this mask came from the Torch's appearance on the cover of Fantastic Four #233. Template information for the mask is as follows:

Robby the CubeBot Papercraft

Entitled "Robby the CubeBot", this robot papercraft is a hako version of Robby the Robot from the classic 1956 Science Fiction movie, Forbidden Planet. The template was designed by Hobby Talk Forum member "Airdave" and is available here. Once upon a time, it was possible to download a realistic papercraft Robby from Japanese designer "Uhu02", but as far as I know the model is no longer offered. If that is the case, then this hako version may be the only free papercraft of Robby currently available on the Internet.

Tron Papercraft: Sark's Identity Disc

I finally got around to finishing the companion to the Tron's Identity Disc papercraft I posted two weeks ago. This is the identity disc of Tron's enemy, Sark. In the original Tron movie, heros are colored blue while villians are colored red, so the red color of Sark's disc identifies him as a villian. In addition to the original movie, Sark is a boss in the Space Paranoids world of the Kingdom Hearts II video game. Albeit a little fuzzy, here is a taste of how he appears in the game:

Star Wars Papercraft: Jedi Holocron

In the Stars Wars universe, holocrons are crystal-lattice devices into which both the Jedi and the Sith record their experiences and knowledge for future generations. Jedi holocrons come in a variety of geometric shapes, while Sith holocrons are typically pyramids. This cube shaped Jedi holocron papercraft is the work of "Exxos" who modeled it after a holocron which appears in the Tales of the Jedi series of comic books by Dark Horse Comics. A PDF template is available here at Exxos' DeviantART page, but be forewarned that (other than the above photograph) there are no instructions included.

Iron Man Origami

These two Iron Man origami pieces were designed by origami artist Brian Chan in 2008. Each was folded from a single square of paper. To give you an idea of the scale, the mask is about the size of the palm of your hand. Star Trek Papercraft: Klingon Knife

Here's another papercraft based on a 3D model from the Star Trek Voyager Elite Force video game. This is the game's version of the D'k tahg, the traditional Klingon warrior's knife. The knife is seen only briefly in the video game when the player must attempt to sneak past a Klingon enemy who is busy eating some meat.

Construction tip: Build from the blade downward. Doing so makes it easier to reach inside and hold the flaps down while the glue drys.

David Bowie Paper Mask

This printable paper mask depicts British singer David Bowie dressed as one of his many personas. This particular Bowie persona shares its name with his 1973 album, Aladdin Sane, the name being an intentional pun on "A lad insane". The mask is offered as a free download on the multimedia page of the David Bowie Wonderworld Fan Site. Other multimedia downloads on the page include ring tones and video games.

Japanese Deep Sea Papercraft

From the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) comes a nice assortment of deep sea papercraft. In addition to eight sea creature papercraft there are papercraft of two submarines, a ship and an oceanographic buoy. My favorite is the manta ray. Tron's Identity Disc Papercraft

Back in January after I posted my Tron Bit papercraft I got a request to do some Tron identity disc papercraft. Today I am finally delivering! The 3D model used to create this papercraft was taken from the Tron 2.0 video game. I created a disc texture to match Tron's own identity disc as it appeared in the original movie. Other disc models I am planning on posting in the future are Sark's identity disc and Jet's identity disc from Tron 2.0. The the disc base is my own design and is intended to match the bases that go with the Bits. In the Tron universe identity discs have multiple functions including offensive weapon, defensive weapon, and data storage device. Here is Tron making use of his disc in battle:

Camo Jaguar Papercraft

This two piece papercraft Jaguar comes from the company website (Japanese version) of British fashion designer Sir Paul Smith. What at first appears to be a typical camouflage paint scheme on closer inspection is actually overlapping silhouettes of women reminiscent of the typical opening credits of a James Bond film. I have finished my second papercraft based on 3D models from the Star Trek Voyager Elite Force video game. This is the hypospray used in the game by the Emergency Medical Hologram (also known as "The Doctor"). Hyposprays are tools used to give injections of medications and have appeared in each one of the Star Trek television series to date. Here is the template info:

Paper First Person Shooter Glasses

I thought this was at the same time amusing and thought provoking. These glasses were created by German performance artist Aram Bartholl for use in one of his projects. Bartholl describes his intent as follows:

"In the project First Person Shooter, the arm holding the weapon of the video game Counter-Strike (Valve 1999) is transferred into physical space... When a player wears the glasses, the arm holding a weapon always remains in the front, regardless of the direction in which the player moves his or her head... The First Person Shooter glasses are, of course, a provocation and a comment on violence in video games. By transferring the typical first-person (shooter) view to the real world, the player is confronted with his or her actions in the game. At the same time, the project shows how separate everyday life in the physical world is from virtual gaming space, with its own rules."

Steak 'n Shake '64 1/2 Mustang Paper Model

Several weeks ago I stopped at a local Steak 'n Shake restaurant and found out they were giving away free paper car models with their kids meals. The cars looked pretty awesome so I had to get my hands on one. ^-^ The construction of the cars is glueless, relying on tabs to keep them together. I researched the company that produces the cars, Kid Stuff Marketing, Inc., and found they offer a line of 19 antique car models, everything from a Pontiac Bonneville to a Ford Edsel Pacer. You can take a look at their models here. Sorry no free downloads, but they do offer cases of 120 unfolded cars for a price if you just can't live without them. ^-^
